These hybrids are from seedlings of the wild R. atlanticum found growing wild in central Delaware, between Dover and the headwaters of the Choptank River. Some are wild hybrids of R. atlanticum with R. periclymenoides.

They are fragrant, graceful, native and charming unobtrusive subjects. Their period of flowering follows lilacs which, with us, is late May and early June. Under oak trees with leafy litter over their roots they grow easily to 5'; in more exposed areas perhaps only 4'. Colors run from yellow to white to pink.

The seedlings were collected by Polly Hill and her husband Julian, and transferred to their home on Martha’s Vineyard, MA. The Choptank Hybrids have come from Mrs. Hill’s collection and from Transplant Nursery in Georgia.
