2’ tall x 2’ wide with an intermediate habit. Buds in tints of Light Purplish-Pink (65B) to Pale Purplish-Pink (65C). Flowers Pale Purplish-Pink (65C) and lighter tints. Blotch and throat of Strong Yellow-Green (144C). Double with up to 17 petals (5 + 7 + 5), funnel-shaped with rounded, overlapping, frilly-edged lobes, 2 ¾” wide x 1 ¾” long, 2-3 per cluster. Blooms early midseason (late April in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Strong Yellow-Green (144B), ¼” long. Foliage is a Strong Yellow-Green (144A), matte. Leaf shape: elliptic with a cuneate base and acuminate tip, concave side to side, downcurved base to tip, up to 2” long x 1” wide. Zone 7. Selection number: RBS 90. Breeder code: #2-02-01. Cross: ‘Haru-no-Hibiki’, Belgian Indian x ‘Karee Lynn’, Stewart. Named for Dr. Charles (Charlie) H. Evans to honor his commitments to the ASA. He was an ASA President, Director, and Editor of The Azalean. Charlie also authored many articles for our journal. He was a founding member of the Brookside Gardens Chapter and served there in many capacities. For his contributions, Charlie was given the ASA Distinguished Service award in 1989. |
