3 1/4’ tall x 3 3/4’ wide with an intermediate habit. Flowers bicolor: Vivid Purplish-Pink (N66A) margins with a very pale center (tints of 73C and lighter). Small blotch Vivid Purplish-Red (61C). Single, funnel-shaped, with rounded, overlapping lobes, wavy edges, 2 3/4” wide x 1 3/4” long, 2 per cluster. Blooms early midseason (early to mid May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Moderate Yellow-Green (138C), 1/8” long. Foliage matte Moderate Yellow-Green (138A). Leaf shape: elliptic, cuneate base, acuminate tip, Concave (side-to-side), downcurved (base to tip), up to 2” long x 1 1/4” wide. Zone 7. Selection number: RBS 174. Breeder Code: #3-2000-1. Cross = ‘Asahi Sakigake’, Belgian Indian x ‘Margaret Douglas’, Back Acres. Named for Daniel (Dan) Neckel, who has been a tremendous help to the Northern Virginia Chapter with his support of many events as well as growing azaleas for our plant sales.
