| 3’ tall x 3’ wide with an intermediate habit. Flowers bicolor: Strong Purplish-Red (58C) with a very pale center. Blotch Vivid Purplish-Red (61C). Single, some with a few petaloid stamens, funnel-shaped, rounded, overlapping lobes with wavy edges, 2 3/4” wide x 2” long, 2 per cluster. Blooms midseason (mid May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Moderate Yellow-Green (138C), 3/16” long. Foliage Strong Yellow-Green (143A), semiglossy. Leaf shape: elliptic, cuneate base, acuminate tip, slightly concave (side-to-side), downcurved (base to tip), Up to 2 1/2” long x 1 1/4” wide. Zone 7. Selection number: RBS 179. Breeder code: #3-00-2. Cross = ‘Asahi Sakigake’, Belgian Indian x ‘Margaret Douglas’, Back Acres. Named for Thomas David Meadows for his support of the Northern Virginia Chapter as he has been involved in most of the chapter’s events. David is an avid collector of azaleas, is a prolific propagator, and has shared many of his plants and cuttings with chapter members. He and his wife have opened their garden on many occasions where a tremendous number of cultivars may be enjoyed. | |||||
